FIRST VISIT TO THE LIGHTHOUSE CHURCH - Sunday, Feb.10, 2013 (by Carol H.)
A very nondescript room, in an unimposing, poor-looking building. A wall of
brightly lit windows fronted the room. Leading up to the “Church”, motor
vehicles of all kinds lined the dirty street; people loitering about.
The door was opened and we were welcomed in. Shoes
off first! Red plastic chairs lined up in rows, occupied by young men & some
women. Children running around laughing & playing games & coloring. We
were seated in the back row of chairs.

Ajaan Isaiah leading worship
The service begins, after much tuning up of guitars. The
Pastor is a young man full of love & joy. Every Bible verse he quoted, the
parishioners rustled through their Bibles to find the right place, and repeated with him the verse he was reading.
|
The Pastor decided, part way through his service, that we all should greet each
other, This entailed going up and down through the rows shaking hands and saying "sawatdee kah/kup"(Thai), "mingalaba" (B**mese), and "how are you?". After much hilarity, we
settled down to the rest of the service. Their worship songs were similar to
some of CPC worship songs. Their songs of Worship were sung with such abandonment
& joy, that one’s heart became full of humbling emotions.

The beautiful banner made by Laurie Griffin. Her explanation of it:
This quilt was designed by Kristen Griffin and is named "Jimmymare" It is a tribute to the faith and love of my dad and mom, Jim and Marilyn Doughty. "Gramps" Doughty went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Dec 26th. The design began with the heart and was built out from there. The blocks can represent friendships. Some are bright and crazy and others are simple, some close to the heart and others along the edges. All are necessary as part of the design. They can also represent memories. Some are happy and stand out, while others are dark and not so pleasant. Together they make up life. Mom and dad are the thread that join all our lives together into a beautiful piece of art. Dad, was loved and will be missed. Mom, will be held together by her faith and the love of family and friends.
The quilt was completed by the ladies of Cedar Park church and we are pleased that it will be used as a banner in a church in Thailand. We pass it on with our love and prayers that it will be a visual reminder of the faith we share in Jesus and of the love He has shown to each of us.
*************
Their songs of worship were sung with such abandonment & joy, that one’s
heart became full of humbling emotions. A banner [made by Laurie Griffin], and a testimony by Paul were given. When the service was over, chairs were put a way, the floor
swept, and dinner was served for those who were there. This was the ritual for
both the Sunday evening services we attended.

One good reason why shoes are left outside! |
Friendships have been forged and goodwill abounds. The Lighthouse Church is and
will be a Beacon for all in that area, who are looking for Jesus.
