Painting & Fixing (by Allen & Janelle)

Painting the church was somewhat of a challenge. The challenge was the 40C temperature. The crew for this project was, Kevin and his family, Donna, Hans, Paul, Yvonne, Carol S, Shane and Allen. The building is constructed of concrete. We painted the outside and inside walls with two coats of clear sealer. The outside of the building received two coats of a straw color and the inside walls received three coats of a white color.

The local dog that got painted by a local boy - oops!

We had only a few interesting incidents happen during these days. One was that of Kevin falling through the roof of the old church entrance canopy. The second incident was that a dog got painted by a neighborhood boy. We had a rain storm that night and the paint was washed off the dog but not off  the church building.

Shane painting Edd & Ingrid's
Shane, Brian and Allen also painted two rooms for Ed and Ingrid Russell’s house. Painting in the hot weather was very exhausting, but with all the supporting prayers the job got done.

Jonas, Allen, & P' Chin figure out some wiring

Allen had time to repair and replace a number of lights in the old church building.

We were pleased that the building got painted but we all had heavy hearts that the church could not be completed due to insufficient funds. Our goal will be realized when additional funds will be raised. The church still requires windows, doors, floor tiles, ceiling tiles, lighting and an air-conditioning unit. The job was a great opportunity for us to display CPC’s involvement in Global Missions.
The awning that Jonas & P'Chin build for Pastor Naat

One of our work projects in Thailand was to build a roof at Pastor Naat's house. Myself (Janelle), Emily and Jonas went over there on the first day without having any idea of what kind of roof we would be building or how we would go about building it. Within minutes of Peechin (a construction worker who attends Bethel Church) showing up, him and Jonas got to work! One of my highlights of the trip was watching the two of them work together. Peechin would be talking to Jonas in Thai and Jonas would be responding in English (neither understanding most of what each other were staying) but with a lot of pointing, hand actions, facial expressions and a mutual understanding of construction by the end of the day they had the entire framework of a carport-type roof up (sorry for my lack of building terminology). As it came obvious to Emily and I pretty early on that our construction abilities were slightly lacking we went inside and spent the afternoon getting to know and learning Thai from Pastor Naat as well as spending time with Dtoom (19-year-old Intern at Bethel Church). It was great being able to form these personal relationships with people we have been hearing about at church for the past several years. After a few days of finishing up the roof Kevin came by the house, took one look inside and said 'this needs painting!' So just like that they went out, got all the supplies and the next day Kevin, Shane, Jonas, Emily, Paul, myself, Dtoom and Pastor Naat's son painted the first floor of her house. This became a great opportunity to work together and connect more with members of our missionary group as well as people from Bethel Church.
