LAST KIDS CLUB at SANDY'S (by Brenda)
Stopping for (iced!) coffee & fresh fruit |
Part of the CPC Team went to Sandy's to lead a kids club. Delores, Allen,
Brenda, Josie, Jessica, Jonas, Emily, Kevin and Brian were part of the team at
various times throughout the week.
We started things off playing games out in
front of Sandy's place. She lives in a townhouse complex with lots of families
living near, so it didn't take long for the word to spread that there were free
English classes starting up. Josie, Jessica and Brian were terrific team members
as they played their hearts out with the Thai kids.
After we had attracted a few children Delores would start each day off with some simple English language lessons using flashcards and storybooks.
After she was finished, Dave, Sandy or Pastor Nat would read a Bible story in English that was translated into Thai.
We would finish things up
with an art lesson or craft
project led by Josie, Jessica
or Brenda.

One the funniest things that happened, was during one of Delores's lessons, she looked up and to all our surprise an elephant was just strolling through through the neighbourhood with his handler! Poor Delores lost most of her kids and all her helpers as they all took off to take pictures and pet the elephant - definitely the largest distraction Delores' has had in her over 25 years of teaching experience! Eventually Delores did get us all back with renewed attention and excitement to learn the English word for elephant.

The most exciting thing, by far, however, was at the end of the week when all the children attending the class asked Jesus into their hearts. What a privilege it was for us to witness such sincerity of faith, knowing that a seed of God's love has been planted in these little children's hearts. Sandy lives in this community and is excited to continue the interaction with these children and their families.
